Principal’s Message: 2018 Term 2 Welcome
Dear Parents/Guardians
Term 1 Updates
As we approach the end of term 1, it is our pleasure to share with you some of our proud moments and key events.
Celebrating GCE ‘O’ Level Results 2017
We are indeed proud of our Gessians who have performed very well in the GCE ‘O’ level examinations 2017. 61.7% of Sec 5NA and 95.9% of Sec 4 Express students obtained 5 ‘O’ level passes which were above national average. 9 students from Sec 5NA obtained at least 3 distinctions and this is an improvement from last year. 8 students from Sec 4 Express obtained at least 5 A1s and received the Academic Excellence Awards. These students also obtained a distinction for their CCAs. 10 students from the graduating cohort received the MOE Edusave Character Award. We thank our parents/ guardians, Parent-Teacher Association, School Advisory Committee, and GESS Old Students’ Association for their excellent support of our school programmes. We also would like to thank our teachers for without their care, dedication and commitment, our students would not have done their best holistically.
NPCC Gold Award 2017
We are also happy to announce that the Gan Eng Seng National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) has attained Gold in the Unit Overall Proficiency Award 2017. We commend SSGT(NPCC) Muhammad Ezry Khuzaily B Z and SI (NPCC) Clemen Kok Yu Shan for being awarded the SPF-NPCC Badge, the highest award badge. These cadets have displayed exemplary conduct, leadership qualities and led the cadets under their charge with great pride.
Table Tennis Silver Award ( South Zone Competition ) 2018
Gessians celebrate the excellent performance of our Table Tennis Team in the South Zone competition 2018. Both our ‘C’ and ‘B’ Division girls won the Silver (Team) trophies. We are going into the national championships as the top 16 teams. We wish our girls all the best!
The Green Wave Environmental Care Competition 2018
The Green Wave Environmental Care Competition, organised by SembCorp Marine and co-sponsored by Shell and BP, aims to encourage innovative ideas and research to solve the many environmental issues faced by the world today. Our team, which took part in this competition, was awarded the Commendation Award. The team consists of Lauren Dana Ho Min (3D), De Souza Leslie Ethan (3D) and Ike Valerie Natasha Chinonye (3G). Their project was on the combined use of piezoelectric and solar power generation in covered walkways, to generate electricity for street lights and indoor farming. In addition, Ike Valerie Natasha Chinonye also received the Good Presenter Award.
Founder’s Day Celebrations on 9 March and 19 March 2018
This year, the school celebrates Founder’s Day in two parts: on 9 March and 19 March 2018. On 9 March, there will be lessons as usual for our students and school ends at 12.55 pm. The Annual Prize Giving Ceremony will start at 2.30 pm in the hall. This gives the school an opportunity to end the term with a celebration of student achievements for 2017.
Term 2 will open on 19 March with Founder’s Day cum Cross Country Race 2018 at the OCBC Square @ Singapore Sports Hub. This event aims to bring the whole school together to celebrate our school’s 133 rd anniversary as a Gessian family through a range of activities in the arts, sports and innovation to strengthen our Gessian school spirit. Every Gessian will also have an opportunity to learn more about our Applied Learning Programme through exploring skills involved in coding. As our school strongly believes in reaching out to the community, students will be actively involved with the children from the Rainbow Centre and they will take them for the fun walk along the Cross Country route.
