Principal’s Message: 2017 Term 3 Updates
TERM 3 Updates
We like to welcome our 7 new teachers and our Administrative Manager who joined GESS in June this year: Mr Ang Boon Bin (Biology/Social Studies), Miss Cheng Si Jia Jessica (Art/English Language), Miss Kok Jia En Yvonne (Geography/Social Studies), Mr Ling Yang Cong (Social Studies/English Language), Mr Muhammad Sultan (Math/Chemistry), Mr Ong Qiu Jie (English Literature/English Language), Ms Wang Shi Hui (Art/Computer Applications), and Mr Phoon Geng Chee (Admin Manager).
We would also want to thank and bid farewell to the following teachers who have moved on: Miss Teo Jie Ying Joyce (Art/Math), Mdm Chai Jian Yi (Math/Chemistry), Mr Ng Mang Chung (Computer Applications/Math), and Miss Zhou Bing Jie (Chinese Language). We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
Sports Fiesta (30 June 2017)
This year, representatives from our School Advisory Committee (SAC), Gan Eng Seng School Old Student Association (GESSOSA), and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) took part in two friendly games of street soccer and netball against our students. All played enthusiastically while the spectators cheered them on. The event has successfully enabled all students to participate in various competitive and non-competitive games and built the foundation for an active lifestyle.
National Day Celebration (8 August 2017)
We were honoured to have our SAC member, Mr Larry Lim (Class of 1988) as our Guest of Honour for the event. The parade march-past by all six contingents of our Uniformed Groups, the performances by all four of our Performing Arts CCAs, and the community singing led by our staff created an atmosphere where all our staff and students could celebrate and take pride in our nation’s progress and achievements, while deepening in all a sense of confidence in our nation’s future.
We celebrate with Miss Teo Yan Ling (Class of 2016) who has been awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence (LKY-ARE) this year. She is one of 11 secondary school students who have received this national award for their excellence in both academic and non-academic spheres.
Starting from 25 August, students may attend school in their level GESS Camp T-shirt or school PE T-shirt every Friday. The T-shirts must be properly tucked in their school shorts/pants/skirts. This initiative is to add more vibrancy to our school as our students learn to work hard, play hard and also look forward to refreshing themselves at the end of the week. However, students must still be attired in their full uniform on their school examination or national examination days.
An Update for Term 4 Key Events
We like to bring to your attention the dates of the following key events of the school in Term 4 (see Annex).
As we enter the examination period in Term 4, let us work together to provide the emotional and academic support to nurture the best in each of our students.
